Microsoft Windows Server CALs
Microsoft Windows Server CAL is a license that allows users or devices to access Windows Server. CALs give authorization to users to utilize the services of the server OS. The two main types of Windows Server CALs are:
- User CALs, which allow a single user to access Windows Server from an unlimited number of devices.
- Device CALs, which allow an unlimited number of users to access Windows Server from a single device. For example, in 24-hour call centers, employees on different shifts often use the same machine.
- There is also a third type of the CAL license – the Remote Desktop Service (RDS) CALs. RDS CALS are required for users or devices that need to use Remote Desktop Service on Windows Server.
