Installation guide 2: How to do a clean installation of Windows 10
If you’d like to perform a clean installation, you will need to create an installation media.
Please note: This process is more complicated than upgrading from an older version, or re-installing, and we recommend it is only done if you’re an advanced computer user. If you’re not, then please contact our customer support to help you.
Before we’ll dive into how to install Windows 10 on your computer, make sure that:
- you’re connected to the internet
- you have a blank USB/DVD of minimum 8 GB
- your PC meets the selected Windows 10 OS system requirements
- you have at least 20 GB of free space on your Local disk (C:) drive
- you have your product license key at hand
- you have a backup of your data
Once you have everything ready, you can start with the installation.
Creating a bootable USB flash drive
Firstly, you will need to create a bootable USB with the Windows 10 Installation.
Follow these instructions to create your installation USB drive.
- Download
Media Creation Tool (MCT):
Download Media Creation Tool (MCT) for Windows 10
IMPORTANT! Media Creation Tool is compatible only with the following OS: Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. - Insert the
USB drive that you want to use as your
installation media into your PC/laptop. It needs to be at least
8GB in size (you'll see "4GB" in the Creation
tool, but Microsoft confirmed the larger number), and make sure you
know which drive letter it’s been assigned (D, E, F, etc.). Select
Create installation media for another PC and
click next.
- Select your language, edition and architecture and click Next.
- Now you have to decide whether you want to create an
installation media or just download an ISO file. To create a USB
flash drive
select the USB flash drive option and click
Next.
- On the next screen, you’ll be prompted to choose the USB drive
you’d like to use. Choose the appropriate removable drive and click
Next.
- Now the Media Creation Tool will begin downloading Windows 10
to your PC. Once it’s downloaded the tool will then put Windows 10
on the USB drive. After that’s done, your drive will be ready.
Click
Finish, let the tool clean up, and unplug your USB
drive.
- Now switch off the computer you want to install Windows 10 on. Plug the USB flash drive that you created earlier into the computer, then switch it on. The installation process should start automatically. If the process doesn’t start automatically, you will need to install the operating system through BIOS – see the guide below to find out how.
Optional: Installing Windows 10 via BIOS
Note: Do this only if you’re an advanced user, if you’re not sure what to do, contact our customer support to help you.
Start the computer and press ESC / F1 / F2 / F8 / F10 / F12 (try which one will work, the correct keyboard button is different for every system) during the initial startup screen. A BIOS menu will appear.
- Choose to enter BIOS setup. The BIOS setup utility page appears.
- Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab. System devices appear in order of priority.
- To give a CD or DVD drive a boot sequence priority over the hard drive, move it to the first position in the list.
- To give a USB device a boot sequence priority over the hard drive, do the following:
- Move the hard drive device to the
top of the boot sequence list.
- Expand the hard drive device to display all hard drives.
- Move the USB device to the top of the list of hard drives.
- Now choose save and exit the BIOS setup utility.
5. The computer will restart with the changed settings and the installation of Windows 10 will automatically start.
